Dr Gita Piramal Graduate Scholarship

The scholarship, established by Somerville College and the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development in collaboration with the Piramal family, aims to provide financial assistance to students from disadvantaged backgrounds in India. This scholarship is dedicated to Dr. Gita Piramal, acknowledging her close ties with Somerville College over the years.

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be Indian residents. The scholarship is offered for full-time MSc courses in various subjects such as Biodiversity, Conservation, Economics for Development, and Global Health Science.

Selection for the scholarship is based on academic merit, alignment with the aims of the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development, an understanding of India’s development challenges, and leadership potential. Financial need will also be taken into consideration during the selection process.

The scholarship covers course fees, living expenses, and a travel allowance for the duration of the course. Only one scholarship is available for the 2025 entry.

The selection process will take place at Somerville College, with all eligible candidates considered regardless of their preferred college. Shortlisting and interviews are scheduled for April 2025. Candidates meeting the residency criteria will be contacted in February 2025 to express their interest in the scholarship and provide necessary information.
